What does a confidential advisor do

Guidance & Support

As an employee, you can contact the confidential advisor if you are confronted with undesirable behavior or integrity violations. When you are dealing with inappropriate behavior such as bullying, discrimination, intimidation or aggression, this can have major consequences. As a confidential advisor, we provide support first of all by listening to your story, we will go over the different scenarios on adressing the issue but it is up to the complaintant to decide, we are only there as a support to adress the issue. This can be done, for example, by starting a conversation together to address this behavior. We provide advice on the various options and guide you through this process. We use a de-escalation ladder for this. We prefer to see that de-escalation takes place and that we continue to talk and that we prevent a formal procedure. If it is necessary to start a formal procedure, we will support you in this as well.

Educate & Inform

When it comes to good and effective policy to adress transgressive behavior, prevention is often more effective than a cure. Effective policy and education can play a major role in this. Moitshepi confidencce work is happy to support your organization with advice and education. We can also assist by helping to draw up good policy specified for your specific organization. In  the case there is a necessity that an employee seeks the support of a confidential adviser, it is important that employees know where to go. Who is the confidential adviser within the organization and who has been appointed as the external confidential adviser? To increase the visibility of the confidential advisor, we provide presentations and  information about undesirable behavior in the workplace.

Advise

One of the tasks of a confidential adviser is to advise management and the board with regard to undesirable behaviour. Every year, the (external) confidential adviser draws up a report in which we look at whether there are, for example, certain trends and tendencies in the reports received that year. We then provide advice on this to management and the board. We can also do a Risk Inventory & Evaluation (RI&E). A safe working climate is important for everyone and the confidential adviser can play a role in analyzing risks. This often also gives us an idea of the work culture. Employee surveys can also help to paint a picture of social safety in the workplace.
